NMDOT crews continue storm damage response
SANTA FE – The District One Bridge Crew completed critical repairs on U.S. 60 in just three days, allowing vehicles to resume travel.
The closure required a 284‑mile detour, a rapid reopening was essential for restoring access to our rural communities. Staff are working to fully reopen to commercial loads requiring special weight permits.
“Our teams will continue working to conduct repairs, strengthen vulnerable areas, and respond wherever they are needed. Our commitment is to keep New Mexico moving safely, and that work continues,” said NMDOT Cabinet Secretary David D. Quintana, P.E.
“The U.S. 60 bridge is a great example of that commitment. Crews went from a major emergency closure Wednesday to reopening the bridge Saturday, getting New Mexicans safely back on the road in just three days. NMDOT understands that road closures in rural communities magnify the impacts those communities face, as detours often add significant distance and travel time. I’m proud of the dedicated professionals within NMDOT who were able to restore access so quickly.
NMDOT crews across the state have worked around the clock for weeks to clear flooding and debris, repair roadway damage, and keep New Mexico’s highways open for travel following weeks of heavy rainfall.
Across all six NMDOT districts, crews have been using loaders, backhoes, dozers, and other equipment to clear debris and floodwater, repair damaged infrastructure, manage traffic, and coordinate with local emergency responders.
NMDOT crews will continue monitoring roadways and responding to damage.
