New Mexico Sees More Early In-Person Voting Participation than Last Midterm Election
Ahead of Election Day, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver provides updates on the impact of severe weather on voting and other General Election Day information.
SANTA FE – More New Mexico voters voted early and in-person during this election than they did in the last midterm election in 2022. As of Monday morning, 456,726 eligible voters have voted in New Mexico’s 2026 General Election, with 385,114 casting ballots early and in-person. 353,569 voters cast ballots via early and in-person voting in 2022.
As the state heads into Election Day tomorrow, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver is providing the following information for voters and media outlets.
Severe Weather
The Secretary of State’s Office’s top priority will always be ensuring the accessibility, security and accuracy of the election. On the heels of extreme weather over the weekend, the Secretary of State’s Office has been in contact with County Clerks as well as state agencies with representatives on the ground in impacted areas. At this time, all Election Day polling locations will open as planned and will be accessible to voters.
Should severe weather impact New Mexico again during this election, New Mexicans are reminded that:
- Registered voters may vote at any polling location in their county. Contact your County Clerk or visit NMVote.org for polling location information, including hours of operation.
- If you are registered to vote and lose your physical identification documents, you can still provide your required identification details verbally and vote in-person.
Voting by Mail
The deadline to request a mailed ballot for this year’s election has passed. If an absentee voter still has not returned a mailed ballot, they are advised to return it in-person, instead of mailing the ballot back to their County Clerk. Completed mailed ballots must be received at a polling location, official election drop box, or County Clerk’s Office in the county where the voter is registered no later than 7:00 pm on Election Day, November 3.
If you have not received your mail-in ballot, you can still vote in-person at a polling location if you sign a form saying you will not vote by mail.
Voting In-Person
Polling places throughout the state will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm tomorrow. Voters can learn more about polling locations in their county, review same day voter registration requirements, see sample ballots, and more at NMVote.org.
Election Night Results
Unofficial election results will be available after 7:00 pm on the Secretary of State Office’s website.
State statute requires poll workers to pause the tabulation and tallying of ballots at 11:00 pm on Election Night. Should such a pause occur, election boards will reconvene the following day to continue their work.
Voters are reminded that election officials, which include the Secretary of State’s Office and New Mexico’s 33 County Clerks, are sources for reliable and trustworthy election information. Voters should be wary of misinformation about voting and elections being promoted or repeated by varying sources on television, online or on social media. The Secretary of State’s Office has created an election misinformation fact check page and issued a voter advisory in collaboration with the New Mexico Department of Justice.
New Mexicans can also find trusted information about the 2026 General Election, including polling locations, sample ballots, and more at NMVote.org and sos.nm.gov/goodquestions or by contacting their County Clerk.
